Pune, 19th October 2026: Around 950 registered private hospitals in Pune will have to prominently display their treatment charges and medical service rates in both Marathi and English. Hospitals that fail to comply with the state government’s directive may face administrative and legal action.

The Public Health Department has instructed private hospitals to display rate cards at locations easily accessible to patients, including hospital entrances, registration desks, enquiry counters and billing counters. The move aims to help patients understand treatment costs in advance and prevent disputes over medical bills.

The directive follows instructions from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Hospitals registered under the Bombay Nursing Homes Registration Act, 1949, are required to display their service charges as prescribed under Schedule III of the Maharashtra Nursing Homes Registration Rules, 2021.

Hospitals must also update their rate cards whenever treatment charges change. Details of treatment packages and their costs must be made available to patients to ensure greater transparency in billing.

Regional medical officers will inspect hospitals to verify compliance with the guidelines. Hospitals found violating the rules may face administrative and legal action.

Suryakant Devkar, Assistant Health Officer of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), said the civic body had already instructed private hospitals within its jurisdiction to comply with the directive.

“Displaying rate cards is mandatory for private hospitals within PMC limits. We have already issued instructions to hospitals. Regional medical officers will inspect them to check compliance, and the civic body is monitoring the implementation,” he said.
