Pune, 19th October 2026: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will send proposals to the state government to cancel town planning (TP) schemes in villages where gram panchayats pass resolutions against them and at least 50% of farmers oppose the plans, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari said on Monday.

Chaudhari assured farmers and landowners that town planning schemes would not be imposed on them against their wishes. He also confirmed that the proposed Inner Ring Road would remain 65 metres wide and that revised zone certificates reflecting the road’s width would be issued after the authority’s structural plan is finalised.

The assurances were given during a meeting with farmers and gram panchayat representatives from six villages in Maval taluka at PMRDA’s headquarters in Akurdi. Representatives from Salumbre, Darumbre, Godumbre, Parandwadi, Dhamane and Sangawade attended the meeting and raised objections and concerns regarding the Inner Ring Road project and the proposed town planning schemes.

PMRDA to Consider Farmers’ Objections to TP Schemes
Farmers and landowners from Maval have demanded the cancellation of the proposed town planning schemes in their villages. Responding to their concerns, Chaudhari said that if the concerned gram panchayats passed resolutions against the schemes and at least 50% of farmers opposed them, the authority would initiate the necessary legal process to send a cancellation proposal to the state government.

He said landowners from the affected villages could submit signed applications seeking cancellation of the schemes to PMRDA. The authority would then examine the requests and take the necessary steps in accordance with the applicable legal provisions.

The meeting was attended by a large number of farmers, along with elected representatives and gram panchayat office-bearers from the six villages.

Inner Ring Road to Remain 65 Metres Wide
Addressing concerns over the proposed road width, Chaudhari said the alignment of the Inner Ring Road had been finalised in accordance with the regional plan.

The 65-metre-wide road has been accommodated within the limits of the original 110-metre alignment, avoiding additional land acquisition, he said.
The commissioner also assured farmers whose land would be acquired for the project that their land would be properly valued and that compensation would be paid in full in cash. Farmers who give their consent would be eligible for additional compensation, he said.

Revised Zone Certificates After Structural Plan
Chaudhari said the PMRDA structural plan would specify the Inner Ring Road’s width as 65 metres. Once the plan comes into effect, the existing reference to a 110-metre-wide road on zone certificates would be removed, and revised certificates reflecting the 65-metre width would be issued.

The structural plan is also expected to prioritise planned development in areas adjoining the Inner Ring Road, given the potential for growth after the project is completed. Detailed planning for developing areas and urban amenities will be undertaken in subsequent stages, he said.
