Pune : Vehicle Registrations Dip 26% During Navratra, Dussehra
Pune, 20th October 2026: Vehicle registrations in Pune fell by 26% during the Navratra and Dussehra period this year, with rising living costs and financial pressure apparently weighing on consumer spending. The city recorded 10,534 vehicle registrations between October 10 and 19, against 14,168 during the corresponding period last year.
The decline was particularly evident in the four-wheeler segment, while two-wheeler registrations also remained subdued, according to RTO data.
Last year, a reduction in Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates ahead of Dussehra had lowered vehicle prices and boosted demand, particularly for cars. This year, registrations were down by 3,634 units compared with the previous year.
Electric vehicle (EV) registrations, however, bucked the trend, rising marginally by around 5% to 1,638 units from 1,566 last year.
Among non-EVs, two-wheelers accounted for the highest number of registrations at 7,046, followed by 2,595 cars. In the EV segment, 1,182 electric two-wheelers and 382 electric cars were registered.
A senior RTO official said the decline was not a cause for concern, as vehicle purchases typically peak during Dhanteras and Diwali, which fall next month. “Many buyers may have already booked vehicles for purchase next month,” the official said.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Regional Transport Office registered 4,411 vehicles between October 15 and 19. These included 4,035 non-transport vehicles and 376 transport vehicles.
