Wadachiwadi, 22th October 2026: Concerns over the alleged neglect of Wadachiwadi Lake have intensified, with Ward No. 41 corporator Nivrutti Anna Bandal calling for urgent intervention by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to ensure the lake’s restoration and long-term conservation. Residents Archana Dube and Sangamitra have also highlighted the importance of protecting the local water body and ensuring accountability in its maintenance.

With water security becoming an increasingly important issue in Pune and its surrounding areas, the need for desilting, pollution control and regular maintenance of Wadachiwadi Lake has drawn attention to the civic administration’s responsibility to protect existing water resources.

Archana Dube, a local resident, said, “Wadachiwadi Lake is an important part of our locality, and its condition should not be ignored. The authorities must take timely action to clean and restore the lake so that it can be preserved for the community and future generations.”

Sangamitra also stressed the need for sustained efforts to protect the lake and ensure that maintenance work is carried out effectively.

“Lake conservation should not be limited to occasional cleaning drives. There needs to be regular monitoring, proper maintenance and effective measures to prevent pollution. The authorities should take responsibility and ensure that the lake is protected in the long run,” Sangamitra said.

Corporator Nivrutti Anna Bandal has called for urgent desilting of Wadachiwadi Lake and sought special funds for its restoration. He has also urged the relevant state and national government authorities to intervene and support conservation efforts.

Bandal has raised questions about the monitoring of private contractors responsible for cleaning and maintenance work, emphasising that outsourcing these activities does not absolve the PMC of its responsibility towards public assets.

He has called for effective pollution-control measures, regular inspections of maintenance work and a time-bound conservation plan to ensure accountability and measurable progress.

Residents and local representatives have urged the authorities to prioritise the lake’s restoration and take concrete steps to protect the water body. They have stressed that sustained coordination between the PMC and relevant government agencies is essential to safeguard Wadachiwadi Lake and preserve its ecological value.
