Pune: Fire Breaks Out in Tinsel County E-Wing Meter Room Days After New Meter Installation
Reported by Shoaib Tadvi
Hinjewadi, 23rd October 2026: A fire broke out in the meter room of E-Wing at Tinsel County in Hinjewadi Phase on Friday morning, triggering panic among residents. The fire was brought under control through the prompt intervention of the society’s security staff, management committee members and residents, who used fire extinguishers before the fire department arrived.
According to residents, the incident occurred between 7.15 am and 7.30 am, when people in the vicinity reportedly heard three loud blast-like sounds. Smoke was subsequently seen coming out of the meter room, prompting the security guard to alert the society manager and committee members.
Residents and committee members rushed to the spot, while the society’s electrician cut off the main power supply to prevent further damage. Fire extinguishers were used to control the flames. The fire department arrived at around 8 am and inspected the site.
The incident has raised concerns among residents about electrical safety, particularly because a new electricity meter had reportedly been installed by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) team two days before the fire.
Residents said the society, which is more than five years old, had not experienced a similar electrical incident previously. They have sought an inquiry into the cause of the fire and a review of the recent meter installation work.
Nirav Shah, a resident of Tinsel County, said, “We are concerned about the incident, especially since a new meter was installed just two days ago. The society’s electrical system had been functioning without any such incident for more than five years. We want the electricity department to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the exact cause of the fire and fix responsibility if any negligence is found.”
Residents have also called for an inspection of the meter room, wiring panels and electrical connections to ensure that the installation was carried out safely and that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
The exact cause of the fire remains to be established, and residents are demanding a formal review by the electricity department.
