Pune, 24th October 2026: The wait for the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro to open to passengers may get longer, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Baramati on November 3 reportedly postponed. The inauguration of the 23.2-km elevated corridor, which was expected to coincide with the visit, now faces fresh uncertainty, with no official date announced.

Built under a public-private partnership, the corridor will connect Hinjawadi’s IT hub with Shivajinagar. Work on all 17 stations has been completed, while 20 metro coaches and around 90 train operators are reportedly ready for service.

More than 10 trial runs are being conducted daily to assess train timings, station halts and journey duration. However, the corridor can open to passengers only after the necessary safety clearances and operational preparations are completed.

The metro is expected to significantly reduce travel time for IT employees commuting between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar, while also easing traffic congestion on the busy route.

Although the corridor’s inauguration was expected during Modi’s proposed Baramati visit, reports of a possible postponement have raised fresh questions about when passenger services will begin. No official announcement has been made regarding either the Prime Minister’s revised itinerary or the metro’s inauguration date.
