Pune Businesses Explore AI-Based CCTV Analysis for Payment Monitoring

Pune, October 24, 2026: After police and security authorities deployed AI technologies to identify persons of interest in crowds during festive processions and rallies, citizens of Pune have resorted to pairing AI and CCTV services to ensure security and surety of payment in restaurants and eateries.
Speaking to one such business owner in Parvati Paytha, “We upload the CCTV footage onto ChatGPT, look for the person that we doubt hasn’t paid, and create a clearer image of them as a defaulter.”
Artificial Intelligence as an upcoming safety measure is promising to business owners, as it allows them to employ strategies without taking costs out of business.
“We haven’t had the chance to engage in it as such, for our customers are good and honest people, but it helps keep track of who paid and who didn’t during rush hours,” added another restaurant owner.
However, the use of CCTV footage also raises questions about customer privacy and the handling of personal data. India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, establish a framework for the processing and protection of digital personal data.
As Pune’s businesses continue to explore the use of AI in their daily operations, the technology is gradually becoming part of conversations around restaurant management, customer monitoring and payment tracking, extending its applications beyond conventional security systems.
