Pune, 24th October 2026: Pune Traffic Police have withdrawn the weekend relaxation allowing heavy vehicles on Shivaji Road and Bajirao Road, effective October 25, to ease congestion and ensure pedestrian safety during Diwali shopping.
The restrictions will remain in force until the Diwali festival concludes, according to an order issued on Saturday by Dr. Sandeep Bhajibhakre, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pune City.
“From October 25, 2026, until the end of Diwali, the permission allowing heavy vehicles to use Shivaji Road and Bajirao Road on Saturdays and Sundays is being withdrawn. Heavy vehicles will be prohibited on these routes,” DCP Bhajibhakre said.

The decision comes as large crowds are expected at major shopping destinations, including Laxmi Road, Kumthekar Road, Kelkar Road and Tulshibaug. The movement of shoppers through these busy market areas is expected to increase during the festive period.
The order explains that suspending the weekend relaxation is necessary to maintain smooth traffic movement, prevent congestion and protect pedestrians on the two key roads serving the market areas.
“The decision is being taken to prevent traffic congestion, ensure citizens’ safety, facilitate effective traffic management and maintain smooth movement in the market areas,” DCP Bhajibhakre stated.
