Pune, 25th October 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appointed 17 officers across its ward offices to strengthen mosquito-control measures and help prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and malaria.

The civic body’s Health and Vector-Borne Disease Control Department has urged residents to report mosquito breeding sites to their respective ward offices and take preventive measures to eliminate stagnant water around homes and residential societies.

The appointed officers will coordinate with the concerned ward offices to address complaints about mosquito breeding and arrange insecticide spraying wherever necessary. Residents who spot mosquito larvae or breeding sites in stagnant water have been asked to inform their local PMC ward offices.

PMC Issues Guidelines to Prevent Mosquito Breeding

The civic body has issued preventive guidelines to reduce mosquito breeding in residential areas. Residents have been advised to keep water tanks, drums, barrels and other water storage containers covered and clean them regularly.

Citizens have also been urged to ensure that water does not accumulate in old tyres, plastic containers, flowerpot trays and other discarded objects. Stagnant water in refrigerators, air coolers and flower vases should be removed regularly.

The PMC has further advised residents to maintain cleanliness around their homes, inspect potential mosquito breeding sites frequently and wear full-sleeved clothing to reduce the risk of mosquito bites.

Residents Advised to Seek Medical Attention for Symptoms

The health department has advised people experiencing symptoms such as fever, body aches or headaches to seek medical examination at a municipal hospital.

Residents experiencing symptoms that may indicate dengue, malaria or other mosquito-borne illnesses have been urged not to delay medical consultation.
