Pune: BJP MP Pulls Up PMC Over Alleged Hillock Destruction in Kothrud
Kothrud, 26th October 2026: BJP MP and senior party leader Medha Kulkarni has criticised the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for allegedly failing to curb unauthorised excavation, tree felling and construction on a hillock adjoining Swami Vivekanandnagar in Kothrud.
Following complaints from local residents about extensive excavation, tree felling and construction in the area, Kulkarni visited the site along with officials from the PMC’s construction department to assess the situation.
Emphasising the ecological importance of hillocks to the city, Kulkarni said the increasing instances of hill cutting, tree felling and unauthorised construction were causing damage to Pune’s natural assets. She alleged that the civic administration had failed to intervene in time despite such activities coming to its notice.
“Any attempt to damage hillocks or undertake indiscriminate construction will not be tolerated,” she warned, urging the civic administration to take immediate and concrete action against those responsible.
Meanwhile, the PMC administration clarified that the land in question was privately owned and that no permission had been obtained for excavation on the hillock.
Civic officials said the unauthorised structure at the site had been demolished and action had been initiated against the person concerned. The PMC has also written to the concerned tehsildar, seeking action in the matter.
