Pune, 26th October 2026: An 18-year-old woman escaped an alleged abduction attempt after a 30-year-old man allegedly molested her and tried to carry her away while she was waiting for a friend in the Sukhsagarnagar area on Katraj-Kondhwa Road on Saturday evening.
The accused, Jitu Kishorilal Saroj, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was caught and beaten by local residents before being handed over to Bharati Vidyapeeth police.
According to police, the woman was standing outside Samarth Dairy around 6.30pm when the accused allegedly approached her, touched her inappropriately, pulled her shirt and attempted to abduct her. Her cries for help alerted her friend and nearby residents, who rushed to intervene.
The woman told police that her friend pushed the accused, causing her to fall and injure her hand. The man allegedly continued trying to drag her away and attempted to assault people who intervened. He also allegedly smashed a resident’s mobile phone by throwing it on the ground.
“I had never seen him before. Had my friend not arrived, he might have managed to take me away. He should be punished,” the woman said.
