Pimpri Chinchwad, 27th October 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad has reported a surge in dengue cases, with 90 people testing positive in the first 25 days of October, taking the total number of cases in the city so far this year to 212. The city has also recorded 41 malaria cases.

Changing weather conditions, with chilly mornings and evenings followed by intense daytime heat, have coincided with the rise in mosquito-borne infections, according to the civic medical department.

In October, 1,726 suspected dengue patients were tested, of whom 90 tested positive. Of the 29,483 suspected malaria cases examined, 13 tested positive during the month. Four suspected chikungunya cases were also reported.

Bhosari, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Wakad, Thergaon, Pimple Saudagar, Moshi and Chikhali have reported the highest number of dengue cases. The medical department has observed that ongoing construction of housing projects and water accumulation at sites have created favourable conditions for mosquito breeding.

Water stagnating on the terraces of housing societies and in discarded scrap materials has also contributed to mosquito breeding. The civic authorities have urged residents to ensure that water does not accumulate in refrigerators, flower pots and other containers in and around their homes.

“Dengue larvae breed in clean water. Residents should ensure that water does not stagnate in their homes or surrounding areas. The number of cases had increased at the beginning of the month, but the pace of the rise is now slowing,” said Dr Laxman Gophane, health medical officer.

Meanwhile, the city reported five positive swine flu cases in October, compared with 58 in September, indicating a decline in infections. The medical department said changing weather conditions had also led to an increase in patients reporting cold, cough and fever. Patients from different parts of the city are undergoing treatment at hospitals.

Swine flu symptoms are similar to those of seasonal influenza and include fever, cold, cough, sore throat, body aches and fatigue. In some cases, patients may also experience breathing difficulties.

The civic medical department has advised residents to avoid crowded places, wear masks, wash their hands frequently and maintain a safe distance from people showing symptoms of respiratory infections. Young children, pregnant women and senior citizens have been advised to take extra precautions and seek medical attention if they develop a fever.
