Pune: PMC Commissioner Orders Faster Road Widening on Routes Leading to Pune Airport
Pune, 27th October 2026: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Tuesday directed officials to expedite road-widening projects, remove encroachments and speed up land acquisition to improve traffic movement on major roads leading to Pune Airport.
During an inspection of roads in Viman Nagar, Symbiosis Road, Nagpur Chawl, 509 Chowk and North Main Road, the commissioner reviewed ongoing infrastructure works and instructed officials to complete pending projects at the earliest.
In Viman Nagar, Ram inspected VVIP Road, Symbiosis Road and Shubh Chowk, where handcarts, street vendors and encroachments along side margins were identified as potential obstructions to traffic. He directed the concerned departments to identify specific locations and conduct regular anti-encroachment drives to prevent congestion.
The commissioner also inspected Symbiosis Road, which connects the Ramwadi underpass to Pune Airport. He directed officials to widen the road to 30 metres in accordance with the approved Development Plan (DP).
Road-widening work along the route connecting Nagpur Chawl, Jail Road Police Chowky, 509 Chowk and Wakefield Chowk towards Pune Airport was also reviewed. Discussions were held regarding the proposed road connecting 509 Chowk to Dhanori Main Road through the Air Force premises. To expedite the project, Ram directed officials to organise a meeting with representatives of Air Force Station, Lohegaon.
At North Main Road, the commissioner instructed Road Department officials to complete the ongoing work as soon as possible.
He also directed the concerned departments to complete the land acquisition process on priority for a 30-metre-wide road planned under Section 205 near Aero Mall in the Pune Airport area.
The inspection aimed to accelerate infrastructure projects and improve connectivity to Pune Airport. The PMC administration has been directed to coordinate with the relevant departments to expedite road widening, remove encroachments and complete pending development works to ensure smoother traffic movement.
Additional Municipal Commissioners Prajit Nair and Omprakash Divte, Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner Tushar Babar, Chief Engineer of the Road Department Rajesh Bankar, Deputy Commissioner of the Encroachment Department Somnath Bankar, Municipal Assistant Commissioner Sanjay Pol, and officials from the Road Department, Building Development Department and Nagar Road-Wagholi Ward Office were present during the inspection.
