Rs 35 Lakh Robbery Misreported As Missing Property; Market Yard Inspector Transferred By Pune Police Chief
Pune, 29th October 2026: A Rs 35 lakh robbery allegedly went unregistered as a robbery at Market Yard police station, with the incident recorded as a case of missing property, prompting Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar to transfer the station’s senior inspector for alleged “suppression of crime”.
The October 9 robbery came to light after two men arrested by Swargate police in connection with a separate attempted robbery allegedly confessed to targeting an Angadia carrying Rs 35 lakh in the Market Yard area.
The disclosure led investigators to the businessman’s earlier complaint. Police recovered Rs 25 lakh from the suspects, Kumar said.
The businessman had reportedly visited Market Yard police station several times to report that the cash carrier had been robbed. However, instead of registering a robbery case, station staff recorded the incident as missing property.
The breakthrough came during the investigation into a September 23 attempted robbery involving a Market Yard shopkeeper carrying Rs 4 lakh home. The two suspects allegedly tried to rob him, but their attempt was foiled after a young woman intervened.
Their questioning led police to the October 9 robbery and the subsequent recovery of the cash.
The handling of the original complaint has now come under scrutiny, with the commissioner taking administrative action against the station chief. Police have recovered Rs 25 lakh of the alleged ₹35 lakh loot, while the remaining amount is yet to be accounted for.
