Gahunje, 31st October 2026: A 34-year-old woman, identified as Mugdha Avinash Deshmukh, was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside her flat at Lodha Belmondo in Gahunje, Pune, after her family discovered that she had left London months earlier without informing them. Her body was found in a decomposed condition after police broke open the flat door when repeated attempts to contact her failed.

According to police, Mugdha’s family believed she was living in London and pursuing an MBA. However, an inquiry by London Police revealed that she had left the UK in August. Subsequent examination of her bank statements and other information indicated that she was staying in Pune.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear. Even the postmortem examination has not established the exact cause of death, and police are investigating the case.

According to preliminary information, Mugdha’s father, Avinash Deshmukh, had lodged a missing person complaint at a police station in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after the family failed to contact her.

Mugdha had last spoken to her parents over the phone on October 23. During the conversation, she reportedly told them that she had an interview scheduled somewhere but ended the call in a hurry.

When the family tried contacting her the following day, her mobile phone was switched off. Initially, they assumed she might be occupied with some work. However, as repeated attempts to reach her failed, the family became increasingly concerned.

Her father then contacted one of her friends, Nikita, who was living in London, and asked her to find out about Mugdha’s whereabouts.
Nikita approached London Police and reported her missing. However, the information provided by the police came as a shock to the family. They were informed that Mugdha had left London in August itself.

The family subsequently examined her bank statements and other available information to trace her whereabouts. Their investigation revealed that she was in India and had been staying in Pune.

Police said Mugdha had been living in a flat at Lodha Belmondo in Pune since August. Her family was unaware that she had returned to India.
Following this discovery, her relatives travelled to Pune along with the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police. The team sought assistance from the Shirgaon Police in Pimpri-Chinchwad to trace her residence.

When the police and family members reached the flat, there was no response from inside despite repeated attempts to open the door and contact her over the phone. The police eventually broke open the door and found Mugdha’s body in a decomposed condition.

The body was subsequently sent for postmortem examination, and further investigation was initiated.
Several questions remain unanswered
The circumstances that led Mugdha to leave London and move to Pune in August remain unknown. It is also unclear why she did not inform her parents about her return to India.

Investigators are trying to establish what happened after her last conversation with her parents on October 23 and the circumstances in which she died.

With the postmortem examination yet to establish the cause of death, police are continuing their investigation to determine the sequence of events and whether any other factors were involved.
