Swargate, 3rd November 2026: Relatives of 30-year-old Payal Akshay Zambre, who allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Mukund Nagar, Pune, have threatened to block a national highway if the remaining accused in the case are not arrested by Wednesday morning. The family has accused her in-laws of subjecting her to physical and mental harassment over demands for dowry and gold.

A case has been registered at Swargate Police Station against Payal’s husband, Akshay Zambre, her mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law. Police have arrested her husband, who was produced before a court on Tuesday. The court remanded him to police custody until November 7.

On Tuesday, Payal’s family members and relatives met senior police officials at Swargate Police Station, demanding the immediate arrest of the remaining accused. They alleged that her mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law were still absconding despite nearly 45 hours having passed since the incident.

The family also raised questions about the police investigation. They alleged that Payal’s father-in-law had visited the police station but was taken outside by a police personnel without being detained. They further claimed that CCTV footage from the residential society where the incident took place had not yet been seized.

The relatives warned that villagers would block the National Highway if the remaining accused were not arrested by Wednesday morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Milind Mohite said Payal’s relatives had met senior police officials and discussed their concerns. He acknowledged their anger and said the police had assured them that the matter was being investigated.

Regarding the remaining accused, Mohite said Payal’s father-in-law had been hospitalised due to health complications and would be arrested once his condition improved. He also confirmed that her husband was in police custody until November 7.

The DCP further said police were investigating a WhatsApp message allegedly written by Payal before she died by suicide, in which she reportedly held her in-laws responsible for her situation.

The police are investigating the allegations of dowry-related harassment and the circumstances surrounding Payal’s death.
