Pune, 4th November 2026: A policeman who is supposed to protect the city allegedly turned his car into a weapon against his own colleagues, ramming it into the main gate of Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar’s official residence and attempting to run over security personnel guarding the premises on Tuesday evening.

The accused constable, Amol Bhise (42), was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he drove his car into the gate of the commissioner’s bungalow in the Cantonment area. He was detained following the incident and booked for attempted murder, police said on Wednesday.

The security personnel on duty tried to stop Bhise from entering the premises, but he allegedly attempted to run them over, prompting police to take action. No details of injuries, if any, were immediately available.

Confirming the incident, Kumar said Bhise appeared to be in an inebriated and unstable state of mind. He also revealed that the constable had been suspended in 2025 and reinstated in 2026.

“He rammed into the gate and tried to enter the premises,” Kumar said, adding that Bhise had a history of disciplinary issues and had allegedly been involved in several offences.

Police are probing what prompted the constable to drive to the commissioner’s residence and attempt to force his way inside. Officials are also looking into his past disciplinary record and circumstances surrounding his suspension and reinstatement.
