Pune, 4th November 2026: Pune police have ordered the closure of Plunge pub in Koregaon Park until further orders after an inquiry found that the establishment continued operating beyond its permitted closing time of 1.30am.

The action followed instructions from police commissioner Amitesh Kumar after he received information that the pub was allegedly violating the prescribed operating hours for pubs, bars and restaurants. While such establishments are permitted to remain open until 1.30am, the inquiry found that Plunge was functioning even after 2am.

During the inquiry, police marshals had visited the pub at 1.30am to verify whether it had closed. The management reportedly told them that the establishment had shut for the night. After confirming that it was closed, the marshals left the premises. However, it later emerged that the pub had resumed operations shortly after their departure.

The incident has raised suspicion that the establishment may have been shutting temporarily during police checks and reopening once the personnel left.

The police administration has taken serious note of the matter and will also investigate why the pub resumed operations after the marshals left. Police said strict action would be taken against establishments found violating the prescribed closing hours.

Plunge has been directed to remain closed until further orders. The action has also put other pub and bar operators in Koregaon Park on alert, with police likely to continue monitoring establishments operating beyond permitted hours.
