Pune: Rs 8,000 Diwali Gift From PM? PCMC Police Warn Of Cyber Fraud Trap
Pimpri Chinchwad, 5th November 2026: A purported Diwali gift of Rs8,000 announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for every Indian is the latest bait being used by cyber fraudsters to dupe citizens, prompting Pimpri Chinchwad police to issue a warning against clicking on suspicious links circulating on social media and messaging platforms.
The fraudulent messages claim that the PM has approved the cash assistance and carry links that supposedly allow recipients to claim the money. However, police said the links could expose users’ personal and banking details to fraudsters, potentially resulting in financial losses.
DCP (crime) Rohidas Pawar urged citizens not to fall for such messages, click on links from unknown sources or pay any fee to avail themselves of the purported benefit. He advised people to verify government schemes only through official websites.
Those who receive such messages or come across suspicious links can report them through the cybercrime helpline 1930 or lodge a complaint on the national cybercrime reporting portal.
