Pimpri Chinchwad, 5th November 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) chief engineer Pramod Sudhakar Ombhase has been suspended following his arrest in a bribery case involving a demand for Rs19,000 to clear a contractor’s tender file. Municipal commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi also ordered a departmental inquiry against him on Wednesday (Nov 4).

The suspension has been made effective from October 29, the day Ombhase was arrested. He was serving as chief engineer-2 at the civic body’s civil engineering headquarter.

According to the suspension order, an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) verification found that Ombhase had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs19,000, calculated at 0.5% of the tender amount, to sign a contractor’s tender file. A case was registered against him at the Sant Tukaram Nagar police station, following which he was arrested. A court has remanded him to judicial custody till November 14.

The civic administration said Ombhase had misused his official position and authority, bringing disrepute to the municipal corporation.

The concerned department has been directed to issue a charge sheet within 15 days and expedite the appointment of an inquiry officer and presenting officer.

During his suspension, Ombhase cannot leave the civic headquarters without prior permission from senior officials or take up any other employment or business. His subsistence allowance will be subject to submission of a monthly declaration confirming that he is not engaged in any other work. The order also warns of separate disciplinary action if he engages in misconduct within the municipal office or its premises.
