‘Mumbai 24 hours’ from January 27 on pilot basis

Mumbai, January 22, 2020:- For generating employment, developing of tourism and giving a fillip to the economy, the ambitious ‘Mumbai 24 hours’ concept will now be coming to reality. The environment and tourism minister Aditya Thackeray today gave the information of this concept in the cabinet meeting. Discussion was held on the topic and it was decided that from coming 27th January, this concept will be brought to reality in Mumbai. This information was given by home minister Anil Deshmukh and Minister Aditya Thackeray in a press conference, here, today.

 Addressing the media Mr Aditya Thakeray said that from Monday 27th January, ‘Mumbai 24 hour concept will be coming to reality and the main objective behind this is to generate more employment and develop the tourism avenues. He said that presently it will be run on experimental basis in malls, gated compounds, one lane in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), one lane at Nariman Point. He said that it will not be implemented in the residential areas. Security measures, parking, Labor Law, food security, fire security, solid waste disposal management and all other laws will be strictly followed.

 Minister Thackeray further said that the amendment in shop and establishment law was made in the year 2017 but it was not implemented. Now with the concept of ‘Mumbai 24 hours’ this amended law will be brought to reality. He said that in London the night economy is about 5 billion Pounds, adding that with ‘Mumbai 24 hours’ venture, the business, industry, tourism and employment will increase and it would strengthen the economy.

He said that no changes have been made in the excise and hence, the pub, bar and other such establishments will be following the regular time and the traditional laws. He said that Mumbai is an international city and the tourist who arrived at night, will be facilitated by the Mumbai 24 hour venture. He said that due to this enterprise, various establishments will be functioning in three shifts and so there are chances that the employment opportunities also increased three fold, added Mr Thackeray
