New Delhi, 6th April 2025: The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a high-severity warning for Google Chrome users, alerting them to multiple vulnerabilities in the browser that could be exploited by hackers.
These vulnerabilities, identified as “Use after free” flaws and heap buffer overflow issues, can allow attackers to bypass security, execute unauthorized code, and access sensitive user data. The affected versions include Chrome prior to 118.0.5993.70 for Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. Users are advised to update their browsers immediately to mitigate these risks.
Google has released patches addressing these vulnerabilities, and users can update their browsers by following simple steps: Open the browser, click on “More” (three dots), select “Help,” and then “About Google Chrome.” The update will automatically download and install upon relaunching the browser. This proactive measure is crucial to protect personal data from potential hacking attempts.
CERT-In also recommends enabling automatic updates and using tools like eScan CERT-IN Bot Removal and M-Kavach 2 for enhanced malware protection. Cybersecurity experts emphasize the importance of staying vigilant online and avoiding suspicious links to prevent exploitation of such vulnerabilities.
According to cybersecurity expert, Rohan Singh, a 35-year-old IT consultant from Delhi, “Regular updates are essential for maintaining digital security. Users should always keep their software up-to-date to avoid falling prey to cyber threats.”
The CERT-In alert highlights the need for continuous vigilance in the digital landscape. As technology advances, so do the methods used by hackers, making it imperative for users to stay informed and take proactive measures to safeguard their data. The Indian government’s efforts to alert users about potential threats underscore the growing importance of cybersecurity in protecting personal and national digital assets.
In conclusion, users are urged to take immediate action by updating their Google Chrome browsers to the latest version. By doing so, they can significantly reduce the risk of data breaches and ensure a safer browsing experience. As the digital world continues to evolve, staying ahead of cyber threats through timely updates and best practices is crucial for maintaining online security.
