Pune, 21st August 2025: Cracking down on repeated violations by pubs, restaurants, and liquor-serving establishments in some of Pune’s most prominent nightlife hubs, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued strict directives for immediate action against errant establishments in Kalyani Nagar, Koregaon Park, and Mundhwa.

In a strongly worded order dated August 20, Kumar said:
“It has been observed that there are frequent violations by restaurants and FL-33 establishments operating in Kalyani Nagar, Koregaon Park and Mundhwa areas. The need of the hour is discipline, accountability, and long-term sustainable solutions.”

Joint Committee to Monitor Violations
To enforce the crackdown, a joint committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-4), with the DCP (Traffic) as vice-chairman and ACP (Yerwada division) as member secretary. Members will include senior officials from the PMC, District Collector’s office, State Excise Department, and local area citizens.

This committee has been tasked with verifying a series of violations, including:
Late-night operations beyond permitted hours.
Compliance with CCTV and safety SOPs.
Adequate parking facilities and weekend traffic congestion.
Illegal sale of liquor on rooftops or in unlicensed spaces.
Noise pollution from rooftop music disturbing residents.

“The music in such establishments should not be heard outside the premises. If violations are found, strict legal action will be taken against owners and managers,” Kumar warned.

Civic, Excise Departments Put on Notice
The order also directs the Pune Municipal Corporation to appoint an officer to check building plan violations, unauthorized constructions, and illegal conversion of residential spaces into commercial use. If violations are found, action under the MRTP Act including demolition will be initiated.

The District Collector and Excise Department have been asked to join the committee and review whether suspension or cancellation of licenses is warranted for habitual offenders.

Residents to Be Taken Into Confidence
The Commissioner emphasized that residents of these areas must be involved in the process. “Local citizens, who are the most affected by late-night nuisance and traffic chaos, must be taken into confidence during this drive,” the order states.

The committee has been directed to submit a detailed action report within 15 days to the Police Commissioner’s office.

Why This Crackdown Matters
The action comes amid rising complaints from residents about illegal late-night operations, loud music, and traffic chaos in Pune’s upscale nightlife districts. Residents have repeatedly alleged that several pubs and rooftop bars openly flout rules, leading to sleepless nights, traffic congestion, and unsafe conditions.

By putting multiple agencies on one committee and setting a strict 15-day deadline, the move is being seen as one of the strongest signals yet that Pune Police intends to curb illegalities in the city’s nightlife zones.
