Camp, 27th May 2022: In a shocking incident, a man climbed a tree on the premises of the Pune Police Commissioner’s office and threatened to hang himself on Thursday afternoon. Policemen gathered down the tree to avoid any mishaps while some tried to convince him to come down. He was finally brought down safely by the efforts of a policeman.

Dhananjay Shinde, an employee of a travel firm was concerned after not receiving a salary for two months. He approached the Swargate police station with his complaints but he was driven away by the police for being drunk.

Shinde has been without pay for two months. He went to the Swargate police station late on Wednesday night to file a complaint against his boss but was advised to return the next day because he was inebriated.

On Thursday, he went to the police commissioner’s office at about 3 am, and the cops ordered him to come back around 10.30 am. Shinde arrived at the commissioner’s office at 10.30 am but was denied entry because he was highly inebriated once more, according to the police.

At around 1 pm, Shinde returned with a rope and jumped from the wall despite the iron mesh onto a tree. He threatened to hang himself by tying the rope to a branch. Cops tried to persuade him, but he was not in the mood to listen. Soon after, Constable Pratap Gaikwad climbed the tree and assured Shinde that his complaint would be addressed. He also persuaded him that if he killed himself, his family would be left with no one to care for. Shinde eventually consented and descended. All this lasted from 1 pm to 2 pm. In a police van, he was escorted to Swargate police station, where a complaint against his employer was filed.

Shinde said, “My father works as a farmhand and lives in Latur. He is ill and requires financial assistance for therapy. For the past two months, I have not received my income. Only Rs 6,000 was given to me by my employer. He assaulted me after I argued with him. When I originally went to Swargate, the police did not take my complaint seriously and instead beat me up.”

Inspector Ashok Indalkar of the Swargate police station said, “Shinde was inebriated when he arrived at the police station and misbehaved with our officers. We were prepared to take his complaint, but he left before we could. We contacted a representative from the tour and travel organisation, who stated that Shinde’s track record is poor and that he borrows money from others and does not repay it, thus his paycheck has been withheld. They have said that his arrears will be paid.”
