Pune: Fake currency note case accused claimed to be descendant of Hyderabad Nizam to cheat people

Pune, June 15, 2020: Investigation by the Crime Branch of Pune City Police has revealed that the accused persons arrested in the fake currency racket case, had put the photo of Nizam of Hyderabad at the bungalow in Sanjay Park near Viman Nagar, and claimed to be his descendant to win the trust of people who wanted to exchange Indian currency with US Dollars. After expiry of their police custody, the six accused were produced before a judicial magistrate court today which remanded them to police custody till June 20.

 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Bachchan Singh said, “In investigation till now, we have come to know that the INR lookalike currency was purchased from Crawford market in Mumbai on multiple occasions; while USD lookalike notes were purchased from Hyderabad. The accused used to convince gullible people using the videos of cash along with the newspaper of that day. The accused also claimed to be a descendant of Nizam of Hyderabad and have some photos which are in the bungalow. The pictures need to be verified. He used to send the videos to his known agents who in-turn showed videos to people who required funds. This way multiple people have been cheated. Role of more people is being investigated.”

 

In a joint operation conducted by the Pune Police and Military Intelligence (MI), fake notes worth Rs 87.6 crores were seized from the bungalow and six persons were arrested including an Army Jawan. An FIR has been registered against them with Vimantal police station. Police Inspector Anjum Bagwan of Crime Branch unit 4 is further investigating the case.

 

The arrested persons have been identified as Naik Shaikh Alim Gulab Khan (36), a resident of Pratiknagar near Vishrantwadi, who is posted with Army’s Bombay Sappers establishment in Khadki, and civilians Ritesh Ratnakar (32) of Navi Mumbai, Tufail Ahmed Mohd Ishaq Khan (28), and Abdul Gani Rehmtullah Khan (43), both residents of Mira Road in Thane, Sunil Badrinarayan Sarda (40) of Kondhwa and Abdul Rehman Abdul Gani Khan (19) of Mira Road in Thane. The civilians are agents working in real estate, land dealing etc.
