Seasoned administrator Vikas Kharge took charge as the Principal Secretary of Chief Minister

Mumbai, date.9th: Vikas Kharge has been appointed as Principal Secretary of the CM . He took charge today. Vikas Kharge is an IAS officer from the batch 1994 and served recently as the Principal Secretary in Forest Department.

He had secured 34th rank in the country and first rank in Maharashtra in IAS exam. He also served as the Secretary of the then Chief Minister in 2014.

Vikas Kharge hails from Ichalkaranji, Kolhapur and was born on 17th March 1968. He studied in Shahu Municipality School, Vyankatrao High School and New College, Kolhapur. He holds a B.E. in Electronics and Telecommunication from Government Engineering College, Pune. He has completed his M.A. in Governance and Development from the University of Sussex, UK.

Vikas Kharge has a deep experience in administration. He has served on various posts like Assistant District Collector of Bramhapuri, Chief Executive Officer of Nagpur and Chandrapur, Aurangabad District Collector, Assistant Sales Commissioner Mumbai, Deputy Secretary in General Administration Department, Family Welfare Commissioner , Director of National Rural Health Mission, Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ltd. and the Secretary of Forest Department.

Vikas Kharge has received many awards. He recently was felicitated with 9th Earth Care Award. He was also awarded by the then PM with Satyen Mitra National Award. Vikas Kharge holds an important contribution in the ambitious 50 correct tree plantation project. Ambulance 108 was started under his guidance and 972 ambulances are active till the date. While serving as Aurangabad District Collector, he freed 4000 child- labourers and made sure they got education under Child-labour Eradication Programme.

Vikas Kharge has participated in many international meetings and conferences including Thailand, Sweden, UK, Brazil, South Korea, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Spain, Singapore, Keniya, China, America, Dubai, Poland and Israel etc. He has written a book named Panchayat Raj System- A New Role published by YASHADA.
