NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY CELEBRATES ITS 71st RAISING DAY

Pune, January 16,2020: On16 Jan 2020, the National Defence Academy, India’s Premier Tri-service Military Training Institute celebrated its 71stRaising Day. The Joint services wing (JSW) of the armed forces was founded on 01 Jan 1949 at Clement Town. The first course had commenced on 09 Jan 1949. The JSW (NDA) shifted to the Khadakwasla campus in Oct 1954 and NDA Khadakwasla was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Bombay Shri Morarji Desai on 16 Jan 1955.

Today, the Academy stands tall among all service training institutions in India, having produced almost 39,000 officers who have fought valiantly over land, seaand the air, over the years. To mark the occasion, Rear Admiral S K Grewal, NM, VSM,Officiating Commandant, NDA laid a wreath and paid homage at the Hut of Remembrance to the gallant officers of the NDA, who laid down their lives in service of the Nation. Cadets, Officers, Staff and NDA alumni from Pune City also paid their homage.

The Commandant, NDA awarded motivation awards to employees of NDA for their commendable services and scholarships for the wards of NDA employees. Motivation awards instituted by NDA Alumni were also awarded on this occasion. A large number of NDA Alumni and their families participated in NDA day celebration.
