Pune police brutally assault 2 women, then file case against them

Pune, July 10, 2019 : A woman and her daughter-in-law were brutally assaulted by Pune city police personnel while taking them away for illegally putting up a tea stall near Magarpatta City, Hadapsar. Later, an FIR was registered against them for obstructing public servant from discharging official duty. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The incident took place around 5.30 pm on July 9 near Kumar Paradaise on road from Magarpatta City to Laxmi Lawns. During anti-encroachment drive by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), police personnel were seen beating them while arresting them. The women constables were also seen pulling hair of one of the woman.

Later cops booked Lata Hake and Gangubai Hake for obstructing them from discharging their official duty. As per the FIR, the women abused the cops and also tried to self-immolate infront of their vehicle.

The women have been charged by police for offences under sections 353 (obstructing public servant from discharging official duty), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
