Stay away from crime, New Pune police commissioner warns criminals

Pune – Dr K Venkatesham is the new Commissioner of Police, Pune city. He took charge from Rashmi Shukla, who’s has been transferred as the Additional Director General of Police (Highways), on Friday evening. He was earlier Nagpur police commissioner.
Dr Venkatesham is a Maharashtra cadre IPS officer of 1988 batch. Born on May 10, 1962, he hails from Hyderabad.
He has served in naxal-affected Gondia in the early 1990s besides in communally sensitive places like Malegaon and Osmanabad.
He has also served with Mumbai Police in various ranks. His team had arrested don Arun Gawli and had killed several members of Dawood Ibrahim gang. During 26/11 attacks, he was the Additional Commissioner of Police (Southern region, Mumbai).
In 2013, he was awarded the President’s police medal for distinguished service.
