Pimpri – It was an unusual scene at Nigdi police station, Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate, on January 5. The station house officer (SHO) of the police station was none other the firebrand reporter Rohit Athavale of Maharashtra Times.

On the occasion of Police Raising Day, Athavale was appointed as special SHO to learn about the functioning of a police station. While Athavale was working, a phone call was received some trouble and he soon sent a team there which helped in preventing a major crime. Being senior police inspector in-charge of the police, is it not an easy job as the person has to keep a tab on the law and order situation under the police station and he/she is responsible for everything under the jurisdiction. The post of SHO has got maximum responsibility on the ground.

Speaking to Punekarnews.in , Athavale said, “I have been working as Crime Reporter for the last 10 years. Till now i had seen the department’s functioning on the other side. Once i assumed the role of police inspector, i realised that its not an easy job. The officer is responsible for anything happening in his jurisdiction. Besides law and order duties, he also supervises administration work of the police station.”
