Pune – The chief security officer of the  Pune Municipal corporation (PMC) Santosh Pawar has been arrested by the  anti-corruption bureau (ACB), Pune on Saturday for allegedly demanding bribe of Rs10 lakhs from a security firm and accepting an ‘instalment of Rs 4 lakhs.

PMC had appointed a private contractor to maintain security at its establishments. The contractor had applied for an extension when his contract expired.

assistant commissioner of police, ACB, Jagdish Satav said, “Pawar allegedly demanded bribe of Rs10 lakh to submit a favourable report to extend the contract until the tender to appoint a new security firm was finalised. The contractor, who was not keen on paying the alleged bribery demand, registered a complaint against Pawar and Girme with the ACB.

According to Satav, “A police team laid a trap and caught Girme as he was accepting bribe from the contractor at a hotel opposite PMC main building. Pawar was later arrested from his office.”

An FIR has been registered against the accused with Shivajinagar police station under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
