Pune: PMC Officials to Inspect Civic Issues Daily; Commissioner Warns of Action For Non-Compliance
Pune, 15th September 2026: Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram has directed assistant commissioners and junior engineers posted at regional offices to conduct field inspections of their respective wards during the first half of every working day to ensure prompt action on civic issues.
The move is aimed at preventing officials from merely recording complaints on paper without taking action on the ground. The commissioner has also warned of action against officials who fail to comply with the directions.
During the inspections, officials will have to identify and record issues related to damaged roads, clogged drains, sewage, sanitation, solid waste management, disrupted water supply, encroachments and public health.
Officials will be responsible for resolving complaints that can be addressed at the ward level either on the spot or at the earliest. For issues requiring approval from the civic headquarters, administrative sanctions, funds or additional manpower, officials will have to immediately forward complete details to the concerned department heads.
The commissioner has also directed different departments to coordinate with each other and complete works within specified deadlines to prevent delays.
Officials will be required to preserve before-and-after photographs or videos of every civic issue recorded and the action taken. The measure is intended to curb the practice of showing works as completed in reports without actually carrying them out on the ground.
A consolidated report covering weekly inspections, action taken, proposals forwarded to department heads and their current status will have to be submitted to the municipal commissioner and the concerned additional commissioner every Friday. Officials will also have to regularly update a dedicated Google Sheet for this purpose.
The commissioner will personally review civic issues every Monday morning. Deputy commissioners of the respective zones, assistant commissioners and junior engineers will be required to attend the review meeting.
With the new system, the performance of civic officials will now be assessed not merely on file notings and reports, but on the actual changes and improvements visible on the ground.
