Pune, July 12: The target of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI) is to train 30,000 young boys and girls from the backward community every year. The backward communities have followed Dr. Ambedkar’s message of education and excelled in this field. Acquiring necessary skills for becoming employable is the next step in this regard, said Rajkumar Badole,Hon’ble Minister for Social Justice & Special Assistance Department.

He was speaking today at the inauguration ceremony of Kushal Maharashtra Melawa – a one-day guidance event about skill development, organised by BARTI at Annabhau Sathe Auditorium on Satara Road. Dilip Kamble – Minister of State for Social Justice and Special Assistance, Relief and Rehabilitation, Minorities Development and State Excise; and Dr. Siddharth Dhende, Deputy Mayor of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC); Rajesh Dhabre – Director General, BARTI; Vivek Velankar – Career Guidance Expert; Savita Nalawade – Registrar, BARTI and Rupali Avale – Project Director, Skill Development Department were present on the occasion.

Badole stressed on the need to take skill development programmes to the marginalized communities. “A large population of the slums is from the backward community. The same is true for the rural areas – most of the deprived communities are from these social segments. It is essential of train and equip these people,” he said. He also added that in future, skill development should be done on targeted groups – like women, widows, housemaids, regions where Human Development Index is very low etc.

Badole elaborated on the vision and role of BARTI in skill development. “As we are advancing technologically, there is a fear that more and more people will lose their jobs. The only answer to this is skill building. Since 2014, BARTI has had 26,000 enrollments for skill development. 6,000 of these candidates have been trained and 3,500 of them are now employed and remaining ones are undergoing training. This is a commendable job by BARTI,” he said.

Kamble underlined the need of skills along with formal education. “Only a degree certificate does not help in getting a job; mastering a particular skill is very important. We are a country of young people. We can provide the whole world with human resources. With this vision, we will be holding drives like this in every district of Maharashtra,” he said.

Speaking about the situation in Pune city, Dr. Dhende said, “The population of Pune is about 40 Lakh. Approximately, 15 Lakh of this population lives in the slums. It is important to take this drive to these communities.” He also requested that a model of collaboration between the State Government and Pune Municipal Corporation should be created for skill development.

Dhabre spoke on the importance of skill development on a larger basis. “Every job should be respected. This will truly bring equality. It will also increase people’s participation in making India a developed nation,” he said.

Stalls of many private and government organisations were inaugurated by Badole. Number of students, parents and representatives of various organisations were present on the occasion. Velankar guided young students regarding their career in a separate session. Avale proposed the vote of thanks for the inauguration ceremony.
