Pune, April 27, 2017: Entrepreneurship education in academic curriculum is an important factor in encouraging effective youth entrepreneurship, a recent study by Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) revealed. According to report, a culture of experiential learning will provide students an opportunity to learn from the professional world and thereby assist them in their entrepreneurial journey.

Schemes such as in-service education and the linking of entrepreneurial training to enterprise development could have positive effects in term of profitability, survival of enterprises and long-term employment creation, the study said. GEM report also suggests including entrepreneurship in school education. “Schools also need to actively promote entrepreneurship as a career path – inviting successful young entrepreneurs to participate in the educational programme is a way to introduce young people to positive entrepreneurial role models,” the report says.

Explaining the significance of entrepreneurship education in boosting entrepreneurial ecosystem, Dr Satya Acharya, Senior Faculty at EDII said, “Entrepreneurship is a broad concept with lots of ambiguity & complexity and therefore requires key business skills. It is imperative that students are imparted vocational and technological training tied to enterprise creation for sustainable entrepreneurial journey. EDII has a culture of experiential learning wherein students of flagship programmes get practical exposure to every minute step that is required in setting up a new business, right from ideating and preparing a business plan, to forming and registering a new company and then successfully running the enterprise.”

Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, an acknowledged national resource Institute for Entrepreneurship Education, Research, Training and Institution Building, offers two, AICTE-approved, Post Graduate Programmes – PGDM-Business Entrepreneurship and PGDM-Development Studies. PGDM-BE is for those who want to set up new enterprises or join family business. EDII has adopted a unique approach of delivering key inputs through an innovative milestone-based learning initiative, whereby every student can build his/her new enterprise step by step during the pursuit of the course. EDII has enabled over 300 of its students to become successful entrepreneurs.

Dr Acharya said this course ensures that students harness their entrepreneurial knowledge, networking skills and abilities in setting up own enterprises or while joining their family businesses take them to newer heights.

Another course, PGDM-DS helps students either establish their own social enterprises or join a non-government organization. EDII provides 100% placement to the students who want to join an NGO or national/international agency which are engaged in micro-enterprise creation or extending micro-finance.

Through its two unique flagship programmes – Post Graduate Diploma in Business Entrepreneurship Management and Post Graduate Diploma in Development Studies – the Institute has been playing a vital role in inspiring youngsters to take up entrepreneurship as a career. EDII also extends thorough mentoring support to help students start, progress and sustain a venture. With EDII’s own incubator, Centre for Advancing & Launching Enterprises (CrAdLE), the students now have an additional option of pitching their start-up models here for getting incubated.
