Pune: Fish Market Pomfret, Surmai and Rawas Prices Rise After Shravan

Pune, 15th September 2026: With Shravan coming to an end and Ganeshotsav underway, demand for non-vegetarian food has increased across Pune. Fish, mutton and chicken shops witnessed increased footfall from Friday to Sunday as residents returned to non-vegetarian food after the month of Shravan.

Fish arrivals from the eastern and western coasts have remained steady, keeping prices of most varieties stable. However, pomfret, surmai and rawas have recorded a rise in prices due to higher demand and comparatively lower supply.

Mutton prices have also increased by around Rs 40 per kg, while chicken prices have declined by approximately Rs 10 per kg due to increased supply. Meanwhile, English egg prices have risen by Rs 40 per 100 eggs, while country egg prices have remained unchanged.

According to wholesale market data, the Ganesh Peth fish market received around 20-25 tonnes of deep-sea fish on Sunday, September 13. Around 500 kg of creek fish and 500-700 kg of river fish also arrived. In addition, approximately 20–25 tonnes of rohu, catla and other freshwater fish were received from Andhra Pradesh.

Among deep-sea varieties, pomfret is selling at Rs 1,200-2,000 per kg depending on size, while surmai is priced at Rs 500–700 per kg and rawas at Rs 800-900 per kg. Ghol is available at Rs 700-800 per kg, while fresh Bombay duck is priced at Rs 100-180 per kg.

Prawn prices vary according to size, with small prawns priced at Rs 140-280 per kg, medium prawns at Rs 320–480 per kg and large prawns at Rs 550-650 per kg. Jumbo prawns are priced at around Rs 1,500 per kg, while lobster is selling for Rs 2,000-2,200 per kg.

In the river fish category, rohu is priced at Rs 140-180 per kg and catla at Rs 180-240 per kg. Maral is available at Rs 280-360 per kg, while river crabs are priced at Rs 250-400 per kg.

In the meat segment, goat meat, bolai meat and minced meat are priced at around Rs 840 per kg, while liver is selling at Rs 880 per kg. Chicken is priced at Rs 200 per kg, with leg pieces at Rs 250 per kg and boneless chicken at Rs 300 per kg.

Country eggs are priced at Rs 1,120 per 100 eggs, or Rs 140 per dozen, while English eggs are priced at Rs 600 per 100 eggs, or Rs 84 per dozen.

With Ganeshotsav continuing and demand for non-vegetarian food increasing after Shravan, traders expect market activity to remain strong in the coming days.
