TREE PLANTATION DRIVE AT AURANGABAD CANTONMENT

As part of the tree plantation drive under taken by Government of Maharashtra, an event to plant trees was organised by Forest Department, Maharashtra in collaboration with the local Military Authority on 01 Jul 2016 at Aurangabad Cantonment under guidance of Brigadier Anurag Vij President Cantonment Board, Aurangabad. The area in Cantonment was specifically selected for this event as it is known as “Lungs of Aurangabad” and rate of survivability of plants being high. In this endeavor to make a green city, over 500 persons to include civil dignitaries, army personnel and NCC cadets took part, where in approximately 7000 trees of various varieties were planted.

The event was presided over by the chief guest Mr Hari Bhau Bagade, Honourable Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly alongwith Mr Ramdas Kadam Cabinet Minister of Environment, Maharashtra alongwith other civil and military dignitaries. Various varieties of plants/ trees which are easy to sustain and grow in the region were specifically chosen for this plantation. On the occasion, the chief guest stressed upon the importance of planting trees for maintaining the ecological balance and responsibility of all citizens towards planting trees as well as ensuring their survival.

As a noble gesture towards a greener cause, the Army units located at Aurangabad extended their whole hearted support and actively participated to make the event a grand success.
