12 Central Railway Employees Felicitated with Safety Awards, Including 3 from Pune Division

Mumbai, 17th June 2025: Central Railway General Manager Dharam Veer Meena felicitated 12 railway employees from various divisions with Safety Awards in a ceremony held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai, on Tuesday. The awards recognize the recipients’ vigilance, timely action, and contribution to averting untoward incidents in train operations over the past few months.
The award includes a medal, commendation certificate, a citation, and a cash prize of ₹2,000.
Of the 12 awardees, 6 are from the Mumbai Division, 3 from Pune Division, 2 from Bhusaval Division, and 1 from Nagpur Division.
Mumbai Division Awardees:
Vicky Kumar, Senior Train Manager, Panvel, identified a derailment risk on 13 May while on duty on Train No. 61021 Vasai–Diva MEMU and alerted the passing goods train, preventing a major mishap.
Changdev Dunge, Master Craftsman, Kurla Carshed, noticed a broken pantograph pan on a Vashi local on 1 May and promptly isolated the coach.
Mittal Narendra Gadling, Assistant Loco Pilot, Kurla, detected a 10-meter-long dangling catenary wire at Dadar Yard on 8 March and reported it to Crew Control.
Sandeep Nana Bhalshankar, Master Craftsman (C&W), Igatpuri, found a dislocated centre pivot on a BCN wagon during brake testing on 18 April.
Nilesh Shinde, Junior Engineer (C&W), Kalamboli, discovered under-limit wheel measurements in a goods train on 8 May, indicating potential danger.
Chandan Kumar, Track Maintainer, Vidyavihar, spotted a crack on a diamond crossing between Vidyavihar and Ghatkopar on 9 May and initiated safety measures.
Pune Division Awardees:
Abhishek Lohiya, Deputy Station Manager, Nimblak, heard an unusual sound from a passing goods train on 3 May, leading to the discovery of a flat tyre on a wagon.
Abhichandra Yadav, Loco Pilot (Goods), Lonavala, detected a broken helical spring near wheel no. 4 during routine loco inspection and declared the engine unfit.
Sandeep Pawar, Inspector, Railway Protection Force, Pune, located 11 old ammunition shells buried near Pimpri station on 9 May, which were later deactivated.
Bhusaval Division Awardees:
Uday Pratap Patel, Senior Section Engineer (PWay), Bodwad, identified multiple mechanical issues in the 16th wagon of a passing goods train at Malkapur on 9 April.
Darshan Rajesh Chandan, Pointsman, Gaigaon, noticed a hot axle on the 42nd wagon of a passing goods train on 19 May. The wagon was declared unfit at Paras station.
Nagpur Division Awardee:
M P Dev, Loco Pilot (Mail), halted the 22691 Bengaluru–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express on 30 March after sensing rough riding between Multai and Jaulkheda. Inspections confirmed track defects.
Central Railway Additional General Manager Prateek Goswami, Principal Chief Safety Officer Chandra Kishore Prasad, and other senior officials were present during the felicitation ceremony.
