Dhankawadi, 18th November 2023: Chaos ensued in the Balajinagar area of Dhankawdi on Friday afternoon when a 14-year-old boy, without a driving license, took the wheel of an acquaintance’s car. The joyride turned into a nightmare as the underage driver collided with a two-wheeler and subsequently hit three more, leaving four riders with minor injuries, one sustaining a hand injury.

According to an officer from the Sahakarnagar police, the teenager, a ninth-grade student, was accompanied by a friend of the same age during the ill-fated joyride. Eyewitness statements suggest that the young driver lost control, succumbed to panic, and collided with the other two-wheelers.

Prompt action from area residents, who rushed to aid the injured riders, led to the apprehension of the boy and his friend until the police arrived at the scene. Inspector (crime) Sandip Deshmane of the Sahakarnagar police stated, “Families are being called in for investigation, and appropriate action will be taken following the completion of our probe.”

Sources reveal that the underage duo initiated their drive near Bharati Vidyapeeth college. As they approached Balajinagar, the teenage driver lost control, resulting in the accident. The police are now delving into the ownership of the vehicle and how the minor obtained access to it.

“The minor does not own the car; it belongs to someone else. He took it for a joyride, and when the initial collision occurred, panic set in. In an attempt to flee the scene, more vehicles were struck. We are in the process of registering a case under the relevant sections,” the officer added.
