15 yr old schoolboy nabbed by Delhi Police in #BoysLockerRoom Instagram case

New Delhi, May 5, 2020: Delhi Police have detained a 15-year-old schoolboy nabbed in connection #BoysLockerRoom Instagram chatroom case. Police have also recovered his phone and identified all 21 boys in the group who were glorifying rape on the Instagram chatroom.

Delhi Police Cyber Cell said, “A school student (a juvenile) has been apprehended in connection with the #BoysLockerRoom group case. Almost all the group members (21) have been identified. All of them will be examined.”

This whole matter was disclosed by a girl from South Delhi. Posting on Instagram, the girl wrote, “There is a group of boys in the age group of 17-18 in South Delhi, named ‘Boys Locker Room’, where photographs of young girls were being tampered with and made objectionable. Two boys from my school are part of it.”

Yesterday Delhi Commission for Woman (DCW) Chief Swati Mahiwal had issued notices to Delhi Police demanding registration of FIR and arrest of the boys and Instagram. “I saw a screenshot of ‘#BoysLockerRoom’ group on #Instagram. This is a clear example of a gruesome criminal & rapist mindset,” Mahiwal said.

In the notice sent to Country Head of Instagram by Facebook, Mahiwal wrote, “The Delhi Commission for Women has taken suo-moto cognizance of reports regarding a group called ‘Bois Locker Room’ operational on social media platform `Instagram’ which comprises of several hundred members.

It is reported that the group is used for sharing objectionable pictures of minor girls and young women many times with their personal information. The members of the group have been reported to have discussed techniques of raping women and gang-raping minors. Several other illegal acts and comments have been made on the group. The Commission has received several screenshots of the group wherein the handle names and the usernames are visible.

This is a very serious matter wherein an open media platform is being used for illegal activities. Given the same, the Commission has instituted an inquiry into the matter. Please provide the following information to the Commission:
1) Details of each admin & member of the group in the following format: a) Name b) User name/Handle name c) Email ID d) IP Address e) Location f) Any other information
2. Whether the matter has been taken by the social media company in the matter and action is taken thereof. If yes, please provide complete details of the same. If not, please provide reasons for the same.
3. Whether the matter has been forwarded to the police? If yes, please provide complete details of the same. If not, please provide reasons for the same.
Considering the gravity of the matter, please provide the sought information to the Commission latest by 08.05.2020.”
