‘200 Cops Entered Home at 1.40 am’: Women Lawyers Allege Abduction, Torture; HC Seeks Pune Police Reply
Mumbai/Pune, 3rd September 2026: The Bombay High Court has sought a response from the Pune Police on a petition filed by two women lawyers alleging that police personnel forcibly entered their residence, abducted and assaulted them, and subjected them to torture while in custody.
The petition, filed by lawyers Kirti Ahuja and Kanika Ahuja, alleges that the police action was carried out at the behest of a real estate developer. The petitioners have sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the allegations.
A division bench of Justice Sarang V Kotwal and Justice Ranjeet Singh in an order passed on September 1 directed the Pune Police to file their reply. The matter will be heard again after two weeks.
The Maharashtra government, CBI, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner Tejaswi Satpute and other senior police officers have been named as respondents.
According to the petition, around 200 police personnel allegedly entered Kirti Ahuja’s Pune residence at about 1.40 am on June 17, 2026. The petitioners claimed that members of the private security and police van team were carrying gas cutters and lathis, while most of the personnel were in plain clothes and allegedly did not wear nameplates.
The petition further alleges that 24 people, including women, tenants, an elderly woman and a child, were detained without a search warrant.
The petitioners have alleged that the police action stemmed from a civil dispute involving Rs 1 crore with a real estate developer. They have also alleged that the police disconnected the electricity supply to the house, switched off CCTV cameras and took away valuables, cash and documents related to legal cases.
The allegations are contained in the petition and have not been adjudicated by the court.
