442 Gram Panchayats In Pune District Declared Covid Free

Pune, 26th May 2021: Although Coronavirus disease (COVID19) infection is under control in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad city, the infection in some parts of the rural areas of the district is increasing day by day. On average, more than two thousand new patients have been found in the Zilla Parishad (ZP) area every day since last month. In such a dire situation, in 48-gram panchayats, there has been no Covid infection in the last one and half years. Apart from this, 442 other gram panchayats are Covid-free, informed ZP CEO Ayush Prasad.

The number of Covid patients is increasing rapidly in the villages around Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad which are under the jurisdiction of Zilla Parishad. These villages are mainly Wagholi, Lonikand, Kirkatwadi, Manjari Budruk, Manjari Khurd, Nanded, Kadamwak Wasti, Kunjirwadi, Perne, Kesnand in Haveli taluka and Bavdhan, Bhugaon, Pirangut, Marunji, Hinjawadi, Lavle, Sus, Bhukum, Maan, Mhalunge in Mulshi taluka. A high alert has been declared in 117 villages of the district including these villages.

The first Covid patient in the state was found on March 9, 2020, in Pune city. But the first patient in the rural area of the Pune district was found on March 10, 2020, in the limits of Manjari Gram Panchayat in Haveli taluka. After that, the number of Covid patients increased in Velhe taluka rapidly.

There are a total of 1,403 gram panchayats in the district. Out of these, 913 Gram Panchayats currently have active corona patients. Out of the remaining Gram Panchayats, 442 have been Covid free. And in 48-gram panchayats there has been no Covid infection, said Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Ayush Prasad.
