500 e-vehicle charging stations to come up in Maharashtra

Pune – Under the policy of promoting e-vehicle, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has sanctioned the installation of electric vehicle charging stations in 50 locations in the first phase, in which 10 stations in Pune and 12 stations on Mumbai-Pune highway will be set up. Soon, electric vehicles will be seen in the streets of the city soon.

Considering the increasing use of electric vehicles in the future, MSEDCL has given in principle approval for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations in 500 locations. These stations will be set up in 50 centers in the first phase. Of these, 10 will be set up in Pune city, four in Mumbai, 12 on Mumbai-Pune highway, six in Thane, four in Navi Mumbai and Nagpur in Nagpur.

This project will be implemented in a phased manner. The tender for this is in the final stages and it will be issued within a week. One of the fastest DC charging centers in Paradigm sub station of Pune and at Amravati Road sub-station at Nagpur has been completed and they will be operational soon. MSEDCL  is expected to spend around Rs 2.5 lakhs for the construction of a center.

45 minutes for charging

The State Government has enacted e-Vehicle Incentive Policy 2018 and it will be implemented in the initial phase in six cities of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Aurangabad and Nashik. Under this, electric vehicle charging center will be set up in the available space in sub-centers of MSEDCL. At this center, it will take around 45 minutes to an hour for charging a vehicle. For this, MSEDCL will charge a rate of Rs 6 per unit on the basis of Time Of Day (TOD). There will be discount of Rs 1.5 per unit on power tariff if vehicle is charged between 10 pm to 6 am.
