The Indian Cricket Team in the past few years has had fairly good times, with being a side taken seriously by most teams. They have become a formidable force in the circuit, recognized more and more for their successes on away fields as much as on home grounds.

Indian cricket fans are known for their dedication towards their team, and there are several reports to support that. 42% of fans are happy to cancel their honeymoon if it clashes with their team playing a big game. With the internet becoming much more accessible, there has been a rise in online streaming of matches as well as online betting of matches. Last year had  been quite fantastic for the national team, with them finishing at the top of the rankings for Tests, as prepared by the ICC.

While it has only been two months into the new year, India has already had two international tours, and is currently in the middle of another one.

They have already had a tour with Sri Lanka, which consisted of a three T20 match series. India performed well in this series, winning the two matches that were played. The series took place between 5-10 January, in India. India will start the year with a 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka which will take place between January 5 – January 10, 2020. Next in the calendar for India, after their success with Sri Lanka, was a series with Australia, one with 3 one day matches. The Australia tour of India took place from January 14th – January 19th.

  • India Tour of New Zealand

India was slated to play 5 T20 matches, 3 ODI matches and 2 test matches with New Zealand. While they had great success in the T20 matches winning 3 by a proper margin and 2 in the super over their ODI campaign was very disappointing as they lost all three matches. The first test match between the two teams started from February 21st and it was expected that the test team will be ready by then to serve up a phenomenal performance. Indian skipper Virat Kohli who is confident ahead of Test series vs NZ, said that they can face any opponent, may be in for a tough challenge as the Kiwis also boast of a very formidable team. Unfortunately, India have lost the first test match.

  • South Africa Tour of India

After the series with New Zealand, is South Africa’s tour of India. The two teams will be playing 3 ODI matches in May, with the first first being played at Dharamshala, the second in Lucknow and the third in Kolkata. With India’s batting order performing more or less well, it is her bowling order that has faced a few issues in this season. Just a few months ago, they had played South Africa, and cooked up a brilliant performance, albeit in a different format.

  • Asia Cup

The Asia Cup, which is slated for September 2020, is the next big tournament for India. However India has refused to go to Pakistan, where the tournament was originally supposed to happen, due to bilateral tensions. The alternate venue has not been decided as of yet, but Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or Dubai have been kept in the talks. A T20 format will be followed as preparation for the world cup. This tournament has been won by India, six times already and with the form that they are in, at least when it comes to T20, they might just just make it a seventh.

  • T20 World Cup

The preparation for the seventh edition of the ICC T20 World Cup is already underway. This time, the tournament will be held in Australia, in the months of October and November.

While Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar have been finalized for the squad, there is some uncertainty about Hardik Pandya due to his injury. Coach Ravi Shastri has also recently told PTI that the World Cup is like an obsession for India.

  • India tour of Sri Lanka

While the dates for this series have not yet been confirmed, there is a high chance of India is touring Sri Lanka for a 3 match ODI and a T20 series.

  • India Tour of Australia

India will play 4 test matches and 3 ODIs against Australia in the months of November and December. There is some speculation about the fact that one of these tests might be a pink ball test. Any match between these two teams is guaranteed to be exciting and memorable.

India has an upcoming season which will indeed be a very exciting one. They are in good form, and all the matches before the world cup might give them a lot of leverage when it comes to their world cup campaign.
