64th ARMED FORCES MEDICAL CONFERENCE STARTS AT AFMC

FOCUS ON RESEARCH AND STRATEGIES AIMED AT IMPROVING HEALTH CARE DELIVERY IN ARMED FORCES

The 64th Annual Armed Forces Medical Conference started at Armed Forces Medical College, Pune on 02 Feb 2016. The conference was inaugurated by Lt Gen B K Chopra,
PVSM, AVSM, PHS, Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services.

At an Academic Awards presentation ceremony, a total of fifty nine awards for excellence in postgraduate medical, dental, nursing and paramedical training courses were
presented by the DGAFMS.

This was followed by presentation of award winning completed Armed Forces Medical Research Committee (AFMRC). Presentations were made by principal research workers on studies selected for awards by a panel of experts. These included studies carried out on the use of Contrast- enhanced MR Mammography to evaluate the unaffected breast in cases of one sided breast cancer, comparison of various methods used to evaluate the functioning of a transplanted Liver, study of podocyte associated markers in nephritic syndrome, formulation of height and weight charts for Armed Forces personnel and evaluation of torque prescription in certain types of dental implants.

Other sessions included meetings of the Armed Forces Medical Academic Committee (AFMAC), Governing Council of Medical Journal Armed Forces India, Governing Council of AFMS (O) Fund and Armed Forces Medical College Management Committee. These meetings reviewed the progress made in implementation of decisions taken on various
agenda points that were discussed last year.

During the AFMAC meeting, the Annual College Report was presented by Lt Gen A K Nagpal, VSM, Director & Commandant, AFMC.
