Pune, 24th July 2025: In a major crackdown on visual pollution and illegal advertising, a special team appointed by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has identified 88 unauthorized hoardings across four regional zones of the city. However, only 24 of them have been removed so far, raising serious questions about the pace and intent of enforcement.

The hoardings were found within the Yerawada-Kalas-Dhanori, Nagar Road-Vadgaonsheri, Hadapsar-Mundhwa, and Wanawadi-Ramtekdi ward office limits. According to officials, some regional offices were hesitant to act, citing pending applications for hoarding approvals with the civic body.

Two months ago, PMC Commissioner had asked all 14 regional offices to report the number of unauthorized hoardings. At that time, the offices collectively reported only 24 such hoardings. Unsatisfied with the data, the Commissioner directed the Sky Signs Department to conduct a reinspection through a dedicated team, which revealed a far more alarming figure—88 unauthorized hoardings in just four regions.

Taking strict action, the License Inspector of Nagar Road-Vadgaonsheri Regional Office and the Clerk of Yerawada-Kalas-Dhanori Regional Office have been suspended. Notices have also been issued to other regional offices, and they have been instructed to remove all unauthorized hoardings without delay.

“All ward offices have been ordered to remove unauthorized hoardings immediately. If timely action is not taken, disciplinary proceedings will follow. We will also provide the necessary machinery for removal,” said Prithviraj B.P., Additional Commissioner, Pune Municipal Corporation.

The slow pace of removal and lack of accountability has led to public criticism, especially as some new hoardings are reportedly being erected even amid the ongoing drive. The civic administration has promised further action in the coming days to address the issue.
