Pune, 24th June 2023: In a departure from the usual practice of shutting down the water supply in the city every Thursday, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced that water will be provided uninterrupted throughout the day on the upcoming Ashadhi Ekadashi i.e. Thursday, 29th June. Eid Al Adha (Bakrid) will also be observed on the same day.

Anirudh Pavaskar, the head of the water supply department at the municipal corporation, confirmed that no water centres would be shut off on this day.

This decision comes in response to the demands made by various social organizations and political party representatives, who advocated for continuous water supply on auspicious occasions. The PMC has taken a positive stance on this matter, recognizing the significance of the day for the communities.

It is worth noting that the Khadakwasla dam chain, which is the primary water source for the city, is experiencing lower water levels this year. As a result, the PMC implemented a weekly water supply shutdown on Thursdays to conserve water resources.

However, acknowledging the importance of the festival and the sentiments of the public, the PMC has decided to make an exception and provide an uninterrupted water supply on this special day. This gesture aims to ensure that residents can perform their religious rituals and celebrate the occasion without any inconvenience.
