Pune: Pune Postal Department Leads the Way in Aadhaar Card Services

Pune, 17th October 2023: The Pune Postal Department continues to uphold its reputation for delivering outstanding postal services, and it has now clinched the top position in the state for issuing new Aadhaar cards and making corrections to existing ones. In the past six months, spanning from April to September, the Department of Posts has successfully issued new Aadhaar cards to 92,358 children and carried out necessary corrections for others.

The Pune region boasts a total of 246 Aadhaar card registration centres, which have diligently updated a remarkable 10,74,861 cards over the last six years. In response to the surging demand from citizens, the Postal Department has extended its services by introducing two new Aadhaar card centres, one each at the Pune Postal Headquarters and the City Post Office. Postmaster General of Pune Division, Ramchandra Jayabhaye, confirmed this expansion, aiming to enhance accessibility and efficiency.

Citizens flock to these centres throughout the year for various Aadhaar card services, including changing addresses, updating names following marriage, rectifying mobile numbers, and making necessary corrections. The services also cater to children in need of Aadhaar cards. In the central Pune area, post offices have become bustling hubs for Aadhaar card assistance. Even in rural regions, citizens have warmly embraced this initiative. A dedicated postal window at Pune railway station offers extended hours, running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., to accommodate the growing demand for Aadhaar card services.

Among the city’s most responsive centres, the Pune railway station window has earned recognition for its exceptional efficiency, as noted by Jayabhaye.

The data for Aadhaar card services in the Pune Division illustrates the city’s continued dedication to this vital initiative. Pune, in the 2023-24 fiscal year, has issued an impressive 92,358 new Aadhaar cards and processed corrections on existing ones from April to September. This achievement places Pune ahead of other major cities in the Maharashtra Division.
