Election Readiness in Pune: PMC Mobilizes 900 Staff Members for Poll Duties
Pune, 26th March 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is gearing up for the upcoming elections with over 900 staff members from various departments slated to be deployed for election-related duties in the coming days. However, essential departments critical for the seamless operation of basic services, such as water supply, road development, solid waste management, and ward offices, have been exempted from this deployment to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
PMC authorities have been in close communication with district authorities to coordinate the deployment of staff members for election duties. A significant portion of these employees will serve as booth level officers (BLOs) to facilitate the electoral process.
Highlighting the dual responsibilities faced by PMC staff, a senior official stated, “Some staffers will be required to juggle election work alongside their daily responsibilities within PMC.”
While citizens acknowledge the importance of election-related activities, they express concerns about potential disruptions to essential civic services.
