Pune, 15th October 2024: One lakh citizens of Kasba Peth have taken a stand to boycott voting in the upcoming assembly elections due to issues regarding the old Wada and the repair work in the Kasba Assembly Constituency. The Shaniwarwada Action Committee has been formed for this purpose, with committee leader Anupama Mujumdar issuing the warning.

The Archaeology Department has banned construction and repair work within 100 meters of heritage structures. As a result, the reconstruction of old Wada and some buildings in the vicinity of Shaniwarwada and the Pataleshwar temples has come to a halt.

“Citizens are facing difficulties due to the oppressive rule of the Central Government,” the committee alleged, claiming that MPs, MLAs, and corporators have not paid serious attention to these issues.

“Police do not allow hunger strikes to address these demands,” Mujumdar said, emphasizing that citizens are struggling as their concerns are neglected by the government and the questionable management of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

“It appears that the walls of Shaniwarwada do not pose a threat of further damage due to new construction; however, such construction is not permitted here. There are many obstacles to rebuilding the old Wada. Consequently, citizens living in these old buildings are deprived of basic facilities like fire brigade access and ambulance services,” she added.
