Pune, 15th October 2024: Mastercard has inaugurated a cutting-edge Tech Hub in Pune, marking a significant step in its global technology operations. This new campus, located at Bluegrass Business Park in Yerwada, will play a pivotal role in supporting the company’s technological advancements both in India and globally.

The sprawling Pune campus, covering nearly half a million square meters, will house over 6,000 professionals, making it Mastercard’s largest workforce in a single location worldwide. These technologists, engineers, and experts will work across multiple disciplines, including software development, cybersecurity, data architecture, and more, furthering Mastercard’s mission to create a safer and more inclusive payments ecosystem.

A Decade of Growth in India
Mastercard’s presence in India, which began more than four decades ago, has grown exponentially. The first Tech Hub in Pune was established in 2014, starting with a modest workforce that has since expanded significantly. The new Tech Hub reflects Mastercard’s long-term commitment to India’s workforce and economy, as well as its crucial role in supporting global operations, from payment security to digital identity and fraud detection.

Ed McLaughlin, President and Chief Technology Officer of Mastercard, expressed his enthusiasm for the new hub, stating, “The Pune Tech Hub is central to our global technology strategy. It will collaborate with other Mastercard hubs worldwide to create revolutionary solutions that power economies and enable everyday transactions. This new facility underscores Mastercard’s dedication to supporting India’s digital ambitions and nurturing local talent.”

Supporting India’s Digital Transformation
The Pune Tech Hub aligns with India’s “Viksit Bharat” vision, which aims to transform the country into a fully developed, technology-driven economy by 2047. Mastercard’s Pune workforce is already at the forefront of delivering critical technological solutions for India, including the financial inclusion platform Community Pass and the global pilot of the Payment Passkey Service, which integrates biometrics and tokenization for secure online transactions. The hub is also involved in Aadhaar-based services through its role as an Authentication Service Agency.

Gautam Aggarwal, Division President for South Asia at Mastercard, highlighted the strategic importance of India, stating, “India remains a key market for Mastercard, and we are committed to investing in technologies that drive the digital economy forward. The Pune Tech Hub demonstrates Mastercard’s focus on growth in this region, and we are eager to support India’s ambitious digitization goals alongside our partners.”

A Sustainable and Employee-Centric Campus
Designed with sustainability and employee well-being in mind, the new Pune Tech Hub is one of Mastercard’s most environmentally responsible offices. Powered by solar energy, it has earned the distinction of being the first building globally to receive the TRUE Platinum certification for construction and the first such certification in India.

The hub also offers a range of amenities to foster collaboration and enhance employee experience. These include high-tech workstations, wellness facilities, ergonomic desks, recreational spaces, and an exclusive cafeteria. The design of the building draws inspiration from India’s cultural heritage, with each floor reflecting the elements of nature, while murals and artwork from Indian artists celebrate the country’s rich culture.

With this new facility, Mastercard is strengthening its presence in India, adding to its offices in Gurugram, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Vadodara, and further solidifying its role in shaping the future of payments technology both in India and across the globe.
